Safe Walking

In our first Safe Walking session Constable Taina talked to the children about NOT coming to school by car. She also gave them their first practice at crossing the road - within the school grounds. The children were asked to practise at home.

  1. Georgie must have thought she is quite good at crossing the road after this as came home that day & told me "Mummy I know how to cross the road now, so I can walk to school by myself tomorrow ok." She was quite disappointed when I told her "not yet, you need to practise crossing the road lots & lots & wait until you are older".

  2. Hi Room 29. I have a question for you. How old do you have to be to cross the road on your own?

    1. You have to be 8. We are learning now so that we will know how to do it when we are older and have lots of time to practise.

  3. I thought it's about aged 8, depending on the maturity of the child and their ability to focus on the task at hand?
