Rangoli Patterns

Rangoli patterns are made to welcome visitors at Diwali. We have been looking at and making Rangoli patterns in our class this week. Here are some patterns we made using chalk.

Some children even made a Rangoli hopscotch.

Baking Gingerbread Men

Today we baked some gingerbread men as we have been doing lots of work about the story of The Gingerbread Man.

The Gingerbread Man

We told the story of the Gingerbread Man and then based our work learning about length around the story.
First we found things in our classroom that were taller and shorter than the Gingerbread Man.

Next we built some bridges to help the Gingerbread Man get safely across the river. We tried to work out whose bridge was the longest. We decided to use the big ruler to help us.

After that we decided to use uni fix cubes to measure things around our classroom. Finally we had to try and make a bed for the Gingerbread Man that was 7 uni fix cubes long and 6 uni fix cubes wide. We worked out that we had to use the uni fix cubes to keep checking our beds were the correct size.

Money, money, money.

Today Gary from ASB bank came to talk to Room 29 about money. The children learned about our different coins and notes. They also learned about spending, saving and sharing their money.
